A large corporation recently hired several cannibals. “You are all part of our team now,” said the HR rep during the welcoming briefing. “You get all the usual benefits and you can go to the cafeteria for something to eat, but please, don’t eat any of the other employees.” The cannibals promised they would not.
Four weeks later their boss remarked, “You’re all working very hard and I’m satisfied with your work. However, one of our secretaries has disappeared. Do any of you know what happened to her?” The cannibals all shook their heads “No.”
After the boss had left, the leader of the cannibals said to the others, “Which one of you idiots ate the secretary?” A hand rose hesitantly.
“You fool,” the leader continued! “For four weeks we’ve been eating managers and no one noticed anything. But NOOOooooo, you had to go and eat someone who actually does something!”
As humorous as this story is, it illustrates the challenge of managing productivity and employee engagement at all levels of an organisation.
Here at crAzy always wins! our philosophy of leadership is that everyone leads from where they are. It is our experience that higher levels of engagement in employees translates to higher productivity and lower staff turnover which in turn leads to a more effective and profitable organisation.
When we are invited into an organisation to examine and improve productivity we place our focus on the individuals inside the team as well as the team. Using combinations of 1-to-1 coaching, systems reengineering and group work, we are able to instil in your organisation a true sense of ownership and accountability. Employees take on the organisational goals as their own and become deeply passionate about the success of the firm. The firm’s successes become their successes. Typically, in the organisations where we have used these interventions we see an immediate change within a few weeks, which after 3 to 6 months of consistent involvement with the teams & individuals embeds itself as the new culture in the organisation. The beauty of our methodology is that strategic leaders become free to do just that; lead, strategically, while the organisation itself does the work of bringing the strategy to life. Of course this may mean that the absence of the CEO may not be noticed for a few weeks….
If your organisation feels sluggish and as though it is being pushed uphill, give us a shout. We will come in and do an assessment of what we see and provide some solutions for you. In no time at all your business will be buzzing along.
PS: we also offer recruitment services, so we can help you screen for cannibals!
